We demand an LA visit if USA wins.....lol....

Scotland is playing the USA at soccer this weekend in my home city of Glasgow.  USA is ranked 7th in the world, Scotland is ranked 74th.

We don't win often but the tartan army will be behind Scotland as always!  May the best team win (as long as it's Scotland!!!)

are foreigners.  It's football, baby!  Of course, that's American football.  College football is king.  Just go to games at Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame and Texas to name a few, and you'll forget all about soccer.  Pro football in America has been known to attract large crowds as well.  Soccer sucks!

You're right about soccer; it blows.  College football is great...IN THE SOUTH!!  From your list, only Texas has got it this year.  Sure, the Big 10 schools you mentioned will pack their stadiums and their fans are strong fans, but on the field they don't stack up to the talent down south.  The Big 10 has been the most overrated joke of a conference for over 2 decades.  The SEC and the ACC are both better.  Pro football is great if you can see past all the assholes like TO who try to ruin the sport.  At least they have a true champion every year.  The college game really needs a playoff.  BCS is nothing more than BS.  However, for the best sport going night in, night out, it's college basketball!  Nothing beats March Madness.  Just remember two things, though: Dook sucks and so does Dukie V!

Flame on if you think I'm wrong.

Hey, the SEC is a great conference, but certainly no better than the Big 10, particularly this year.  Just to use Michigan as an example, the only SEC team that beat them over the last 10 years is Tennessee (a team that's not exactly having a great season this year), and they've played a few of them.  Indeed, Michigan offered to have a home-and-home series with Tennessee a few years ago, and Tennessee said no.  Why do you suppose that is?  At any rate, we could go on and on about this forever - suffice it to say that they are both great conferences.  The ACC is good too, but after Va Tech, FSU and Miami, it's nothing to write home about, at least not in football.  Basketball's another matter, but to be truthful, I'm not really into that.  But when it comes to ALL sports, the Big 10 stands alone on top.  Check the Sears Cup rankings.  Stanford always wins, but the top 10 is largely filled with Big 10 schools.  OK, I don't give a shit about tennis or women's field hockey, but they do count.

As far as a playoff in college football, I'm against it.  You know why?  Because it's more fun to argue about it all the time, particularly over a few beers.  I'm a Big 10 guy as you can tell, and you wouldn't believe the verbal shit that goes on among Big 10 guys (include Notre Dame in that - they are as Big 10 as any of them, despite their sanctimonious attitude).  Think of the fun we could have over a beer arguing about Big 10 vs. SEC football!  Fuck it, a playoff ain't going to happen anyway.

We agree completely on pro football.  It's a TV game, and some of those guys, like T.O., have to lose their attitude.  Then again, I'd rather watch the NFL any day as opposed to the NBA!

...we just need female players dressed in white thongs to pick up some interest here.

Carrie,

My handle says I like tennis, but soccer is a sport I follow closely.  This game is important for both teams.  USA may be ranked 7th, but they have to keep proving themselves.  The Scots have such great tradition, and have produced great football managers; Sir Alex Ferguson comes to mind.

Best of luck.  Maybe a competitive draw would be best.

I hope you return to Chicago.

tennis

Steroid use?

The interest in soccer is so low here that it's amazing if it gets many of our better athletes.

Having about no interest in sports right now, I hope Scottland trounces the US in the upset of the century.

I thought we almost always stank. When did we get good?

two big surprises so far in another fascinating day of college football!  Both Michigan and Ohio State won big, setting things up for the biggest rivalry game in college football next week in Ann Arbor.  They'll get more than 112,000 in for that one in the Big House (which will be expanded to more than 135,000 once they rip down that outdated press box and erect a new one in a few years).  My apologies to those poor deluded folks out there that think Alabama-Auburn, Texas-Oklahoma, USC-UCLA, Miami-FSU, or Georgia-Florida can compare!  :-))

Enough of this soccer shit!  This is America, and football is king!

...attendance size doesn't mean Mich v. Ohio St. is the best rivalry.  Just so you know, Bama v. Auburn, Texas v. Oklahoma, Oklahoma v. Nebraska, FSU v. Florida are all BIGGER rivalries than Missagain v. Ohio St.  Jees, you can't even get some of the key games set up correctly (Miami-FSU, Ga-Florida, WTF???).  Rivalries are about passion, envy, respect and hatred.  I'm not surprised at all that you failed to mention the biggest rivalry of them all.  B/c you probably don't have a clue.  Still trying to figure it out?  All right, I'll clue you in...............................Army v. Navy!!!!

This game doesn't impact the B(C)S or even the Top 25, but year in, year out it's the very definition of what a great rivalry is all about!

Aren't you gonna update us on what happened in the "biggest rivalry game in college football"?  Well since you are the one who's "deluded" in the first place, I'll step in an relieve you.  Missagain lost at home in "the big house" to Ohio St. in a game that had no real bearing on the BCS nat'l championship scene.  While both schools were ranked, they will continually be overrated.  Once again, the truth has revealed both of these teams to be pretenders.  Since you are so dilusional, let me help you understand how things REALLY are.  Both Missagain and Ohio St. would be no better than middle-of-the-league ACC or SEC teams this year, just as is the case EVERY year.

I thought a draw would be a good result for both sides.

As of now, it looks like we'll get an undisputed National Championship game, an unusual thing over the past few years.  But you never know.  USC still has to get by UCLA, and Texas still has the Big 12 championship game.
