Girls on PrEP

What does it mean when a provider says they are on PrEP?  Does it mean they are HIV positive?  Are they safe to have sex with?

Prep is a daily drug that protects against HIV. If a girl says she’s on prep she’s at the least Indicating that she takes her health seriously or is subtly offering bbfs. As someone who seeks out bbfs TS I can tell you it’s usually the latter

Agreed with the above comments. To add a bit more about PrEP; it does NOT help with any other STD/STI. However, to be on it, you need full STD/STI testing every 3 months. If you contract any other STD/STI, you are to get that taken care of before you are given another 3 month prescription. Statistics show over 95% of the people prescribed PrEP in the U.S. are tested every 3 months. There is no simple data that shows how many of those people contract other STD/STIs that use PrEP in the U.S. While PrEP is not 100% effective it's 99%+ against HIV transmission. Since it came out around 2012 there's been less than 20 people who contracted HIV while on it. So, it's the most effective drug to prevent HIV but it does not help with other STD/STI's, the 3 month testing helps people become much more aware of their sexual health.

There's another PREP regimen
Take 2 PREP pills the day before (or day of encounter)
1 PREP pill on the day
1 PREP pill day after.

On-Demand PrEP:  On-demand PrEP is only for cis-gender men who have sex with men (MSM).  On-demand PrEP involves taking 2 pills, 2-24 hours before a possible sexual exposure to HIV and then continuing to take 1 pill each day until 2 days after their last possible sexual exposure. The only PrEP medication approved for on-demand use is Truvada. If a cis-gender MSM has a single possible exposure, they would take 2 pills, 2-24 hours before having sex and then would take 1 pill each day for 2 additional days.  If a person had several possible exposures over the course of 2 or more days, the person would take 2 pills, 2-24 hours before the possible exposure, then 1 pill for each day they are having sex, and then 1 pill each day for 2 days after the last possible exposure. On-demand PrEP is for cis-gender MSM who have occasional risk for HIV that can be predicted at least 2 hours in advance. Cis-gender women, cis-gender men who have sex with women, people of trans experience, and people who share injection equipment should choose daily PrEP, not on-demand PrEP.

I've read about this new version of PrEP, it sounds good for those who know when they're going to walk on the wild side and are disciplined enough to take as prescribed. The main problem with the original 1 pill per day version is that people would forget to take it each day, forget for a weekend, or travel and forget to take it with them. Some of the cases that people contracted HIV while on it admitted that they hadn't been consistent with the medication. In addition to the mentioned On-Demand version, there's also an injectable version taken about every 2 months. There are growing options depending on your lifestyle and personal life.

The 2-1-1 regimen is only approved for Truvada. Although I suspect it works for the others

The original Truvada PrEP and the mentioned Truvada 2-1-1 version are NOT the same medication. It's not just a simple 2-1-1 dosage of any of the anti HIV medications. The original Truvada PrEP medication doesn't reach full effectiveness until taken for 10-12 consecutive days or something like that. Whether other versions are stronger, more potent or something slightly different, each of them need to be taken as prescribed and only as prescribed.

The 2-1-1 regimen is only approved for Truvada. Although I suspect it works for the others
