the passing of a great one

I am sad to say that a veteran member of the community has passed away. His handle had been TheLostSchlong, and before that even, 007, and he was known for having myriad aliases, more recently MarathonDaty and BostonDoc. There once was a thread asking who could guess how many Schlong aliases this good fellow had.

I had the honor of meeting him for a beer, here and there, and he tutored me in the ways of "vixens", as he used to say. This month he hadn't responded to emails or calls, so by chance I did some googling, and found the shocking news.

He died overseas, doing "research." He had a heart attack. What I can say about him was that he was a good, fair guy, who knew clearly what his hobby was. He had been fatally sick in the past, yet survived. So with a new lease, his motto was: spend everything; and have a good time. He did so. I will seriously miss him.

Although I never had the honor of meeting him, I always enjoyed his posts.

He will be missed by many.

before someone brought up his death.

I read about his passing on another board just after it happened. I read this board quite a bit and saw nothing so I decided to keep the information to myself. I was not sure if it was welcome as public knowledge or not.

He had many names on many different escort boards. He was funny, informative and controversial...he absolutely made people think.

Here is the Wash. Post link to his Obit. Many people knew his real identity and the impact he made on America as a whole. Interesting was the least of what he was...... Farewell Good Sir

but I discussed my post on the phone with a very good, long time friend of his in DC and he said that Schlong made no secret as to who he was. The link was also posted on the other board right after his passing.

If GND wants to pull the link I completely understand and I am sorry if I erred on this one. But he was very influential to so many. Just giving credit where credit is due.

xoxox

I am uneasy with openly posting his identity here, so I have deleted your link to his obituary.  I feel a little hypocritical, because I'm glad to know who he was.  Still, we must be mindful of his family and reputation, and I want people to feel safe from being outed here, even after they are gone.

TheLostSchlong and I (as moderator) butted heads a couple of time, and his arrogance sometimes exasperated me, but I was intrigued with this intelligent and worldly man who made me laugh with his razor-sharp and often biting wit and his perspective on life.  I often wondered who he was in real life.  I knew he must be someone special, and now I know that not only did he contribute much here to our little community, but far more to the big world.  I will miss him.  Rest in peace, TheLostSchlong.

I honestly did not mean any disrespect to Schlong. I am sorry anyone thought I "outed" him. Most people who know me know that outing someone is not my style.

I do hope that he is at peace. He did so much for us, both on these boards, and in the world.

I don't doubt that you had the best of intentions, and what you did was not egregious.  You're a good egg.  :-)

I'm not sure if that newspaper link is appropriate. Who knows who might stumble upon that. Let him rest in peace. Let his survivors have peace. imho

He was a valuable poster on "The Legal Corner" of this board.  I never met him, but a few people advised me to read his posts in order to better understand the legal environment within which we participate.

The obit indicates what an influential man he was.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. What a shame to lose such a nice guy. The only consolation is that he's in a much better place than we are on earth. I really believe that. He's probably watching down on all his buddies on this board and enjoying himself.  I believe his philosophy is correct: Enjoy life the fullest. After all, you can't take it with you.

Hugs,
Ciara

I always got a good laugh from his posts, and yes I remember
how much of a pest that he appeared to be for GND,
He will be missed by many in this community.
