I am curious to know if you have purchased insurance?

When traveling Internationally, or for your jewelry you wear, &/or, do you have self defense insurance?

* I plan ahead, but wanted feedback here on TER. I’ve always been one who feels it’s better to be prepared. I would rather have it & not need it, then to need it & not have it. 🤷🏽‍♀️😁Smile for me!

If I am traveling internationally, I try to limit bringing anything valuable. Personally, I think you can leave your expensive jewerly at home. I'm also one to keep items I am concerned about on my carry on since that is always with me. And, when in the hotel, stash it in the hotel safe.

And self defense insurance? You bringing a gun with you to another country? I don't think so. At least not me. Either way, this just gives you covered access to lawyers and/or a firm of sorts. This one doesn't really make sense to me.

I get insurance for other things. Home owners and/or renters insurance makes sense, and to include your valuable you keep at home in it. Life insurance if you have loved ones you want covered should something happen to you. Disability insurance is another one. But outside of some of the more standard ones, I find some of these obscure ones to be somewhat of a scam for paranoid people.

She said "OR", although she probably could have worded it better. Bringing a firearm to a foreign country is a good way to get an all-expenses paid stay in a foreign prison.

While I don't currently have self-defense insurance I plan on getting that, now that I have a trusted recommendation for which service to use. I also paid a "membership" fee to an attorney who is generally recognized as THE expert in self-defense law and he would provide legal assistance to whomever I chose to retain as my attorney in a criminal case resulting the the use of deadly physical force in a self-defense situation.

Probably a good idea to have this type of coverage since the average gun owner is probably not very familiar with laws and guidelines regarding the use of deadly physical force.

for a trip I took around the world. It cost around $3K and covered trip cancellation for any reason, medical evacuation, loss of luggage and other property and a few other things. The policy was written by Travel Insured International. I felt it was worth it for the peace of mind. It also covered jewelry but I left my expensive watch home, as I always do, and wore a $30 Timex.
A friend of mine used to travel in Central and South America wearing a VERY flashy gold-with-a-diamond-bezel Rolex and I told him he was nuts. It never did get stolen though.  So far.

I have used GeoBlue (link below) for travel medical insurance several times for extended (30 days+) trips.

Rates are based on where you go, how long you stay, and how much coverage you want beyond your US-based plan pays for travel medical services. For me, the max coverage offered cost around $250 for a month.

I don't have any info on liability, theft, or other types of travel insurance services, but I suggest you contact your current Home Owners'/Renters' Insurance company and ask about travel coverage in your current policy. They will probably have some short-term options for a small fee, or they may already offer you coverage. Be sure to ask about coverage limits while on travel. They are probably different than your "home" coverage.

I also purchase International Health Insurance, evacuation insurance and cancellation insurance.  If you suffer a heart attack in Mexico, Medicare will not cover it!

that include full coverage while in a foreign country, including emergency treatment and eventual evacuation to the US, but they are expensive.

Especially if you carry lots of cash. Shit 💩 happens. God forbidden 🚫 if I have to kill someone in self defense I don’t want to have to worry about how I can pay for an attorney. 2 million in coverage with self defense insurance.

I travel wearing my jewelry everywhere without worry because I have jewelry insurance. I’m definitely paying more for peace of mind. I love not having to worry!
