First of all to all the men out there that hurt these ladies shame on you. Above all else, they are ladies and needed to be treated as such. Would you take your rolex and slam it against the wall. I found it very disturbing that, I suppose now I see, SP's end up abused, bruised, and mistreated. I may just have old southern values, but I charish each "act" and thank the ladies who treat me accordingly. Ladies is this common? Am I the exception? How prevelant is it?
I know it happens. Fortunately not so often in our realm, but too much at that.
Screening, references, and good use of bad client lists can go a long ways... even still they are not foolproof.
Is there any difference in the man who would abuse a SP over the one who would abuse an SO? An abuser is an abuser.
There are men out there who do not see women as people rather as objects. There are angry and bitter men looking for an outlet to their rage. These same men are likely to also abuse their SO's if they have one.
May we all be fortunate enough to never meet these men.
Sola said it best: "Screening, references, and good use of bad client lists" but nothing is ever a guarantee in life and certainly not in this. It's a risk we all take and we have to decide if it's worth it.
Of course this is easy for me to say as I have never been in a dangerous situation with a man whether it was a civvie date or a paid one. I always go with my gut and if something seems off I tend to be cautious rather then take a chance and decline the meeting.
As we all know this goes beyond physical violence and I have read, as many have, instances of women being killed. So to all you men out there who wonder why some ladies have such strict screening requirements please bear in mind that we just simply want to know we are in safe company.

Thankfully, in my experience it's been very uncommon. I've only had one truly frightening experience, knock on wood.
A client bit me on the face and body - badly enough to leave bruises and teeth marks for almost two weeks. Luckily, I had someone else at my location, but primarily I was simply able to talk him 'down' and convince him to leave. I consider myself very lucky, as we've had a rash of SP related murders in Toronto. There but for the grace of God, etc.
I think the key is screening, and trusting your instincts. I also no longer do late night calls, ever.
I've had the priviledge of meeting some exceptionally nice people through my work, people I'd be happy to know in any situation. I think that the unpleasant clients are the exception, rather than the rule.
There not just ladies. The ones who have provided for me have all been great ladies. Which is one of the reasons I have concern about my provider seeing clients for the first time. Screening is huge. I have never seen a bruise on my provider but if I did I would certainly ask who? She's a friend.
