Secure phone app

There is an interesting video by privacy guru Rob Braxman where he talks about a service that he provides that gives you a phone number that is NOT connected to your name.  It can be accessed over the internet, in other words it will run as a app on your smartphone.  Besides voice calls it also handles text messages.  The service isn't free but looks like the ideal replacement for a burner phone that incorporates into your existing smart phone.   No name associated with phone number, and end to end security.  Even the SMS texts are NOT available to authorities as they are with all public SMS systems.  Here's the video I saw where he talks about it.

Braxman has a lot of good privacy/security advice and services.

but as early as 2013 I have used Burner app to book appointments with providers. At that time, I was having issues with my Google Voice and didn't want to use my actual phone number.

That being said I had to pay for the Burner phone app, and the burner phone app was downloaded from the App Store associated w/ my ID.  Also I paid for the Burner (small amount.. I think it was $5.00 or so) using my Amex card issued under my government name.

So it did provide some level of security but if US Govt has a reason to want to get into my business, they will find a way..

Thankfully, otherwise a law abiding adult who only pays for sex with consulting adults and has no other criminal record and pays taxes on time is of no use to the government.

I use Burner as well, and it works great.  I just wish it wasn’t called Burner. Very obvious if your phone is ever inspected.

As far as I know they don't have any text search feature for text messages. Which makes it complete hell to find something that should be trivial.

Otherwise it's quite good. Yes you have to install it via app store and using a phone number, but you can have anonymous accounts and pseudo anonymous numbers with which you register.

That's not true. If the other party is using a conventional phone then they certainly would be available.

My guess is it would be better to use a burner phone with an app like Viber or Whatsapp that provide end to end encryption if the other party goes that route as well.

Hmm. Well the stored texts would be associated to a number that is not linked to an identity. Seems like an evidentiary dead end.

I'm no tech genius so it seems easier to just keep everything as separate as possible rather than intertwine anything and hope I did it right.

My setup: Actual android burner phone (not an app) bought with cash. TracFone gift card (cash). Fake gmail account (with fake Proton mail backup) to setup. Don't connect to home wifi & don't turn on location services. Sure, it can be generally located by cell tower and associated with my location if my real phone is in the same place but that's a ton of work and a number of things would have to be known first to make that association. Nothing is foolproof but you can make it less obvious.

Essentially what I  do.  Burner is cash Android TracFone, real is iPhone, so less chance of sneaky "helpful" crossover leakage.  Keep Google apps off the real phone.  Never name burner keywords on real phone in any context.  I have a WiFi "guest network" for the burner that never sees real traffic and cannot access local net.
.
Biggest remaining risk is for her to find/notice the burner.

For the low low price of free: Pinger, TextNOW, TextPlus, Signal, Telegram, Google Voice.

AFAIK Telegram doesn't give you an actual line with which you can receive texts or calls. It's a messager.

Tgs main attractiveness compared to other messengers was that its creator refused to give encryption keys to any Leo's (allegedly, there were some rumors he's a Russian gov agent but who knows). So your comma were completely secure from anyone.

Well that will be changing soon as Durov agreed to give encryption keys so now governments can look at private comms

If someone in the government wants to find you they can find you even with a burner phone, using triangulation data from where the phone is used, etc. You're only going to get rolled if you're someone very important or they have actual evidence of you doing something illegal.
