I suspect that most hobbyists are shorter than 5' 10". That's just a theory.
To expand your observation further:
Women (provider or not) REALLY judge a man's attractiveness a lot by his height. Whether they want to admit it or not. I suspect much of this is an unconscious calculus done by her limbic system. To me it's actually kind of scary, but it's the god honest truth.
I think weight and hair thickness are important too, but not nearly as much as height.
Maybe you should post a thread that surveys hobbyist's height with their shoes off. Might be educational.
She says that her preferred minimum for personal relationships is 6'2" with blond or light brown hair. I believe fact that I qualify enhances my standing with her, at least a bit.
The average American Caucasian male's height is 5 foot - 10 inches tall. If you take subsets by age, the average height can be greater or lesser.
Generally, the more recent or younger generations have increasing average heights. Also, our heights decrease after 50y/o as part of aging. 6'1" is quite above average even with age adjustments.
I can't wait to be fifty and have my height start to reduce. It will increase the penis length to body height ratio !
Don't know about how you deal with ego. I kinda shrug off the comments I get from ladies ...maybe because of the fact I'm payin, and at the back of my head they may be just saying that to make me come back. Here are some:

Unfortunately the truth is women hate short men and unlike someone who is 6'1" like yourself, meeting women isn't an option for a man who is 5'1" since even desperate women won't consider shorter men. This leads to loneliness and the only way to satisfy the basic need to be with a woman is to pay a woman. Sad but true!
you likely won't ever see this post mtonkin, but your assessment that "women hate short men" just isn't accurate. many women may prefer men taller than themselves, however this does not necessarily mean "tall," and believe it or not there are women who prefer shorter men. and regardless of preference, i think you would be hard pressed to find a human being, male or female, who "hated" someone based on height.
personally my preference is for men who are taller but not TOO tall...being 5'6", men 5'10" to 6'2" tend to most catch my eye from a purely physical standpoint. however stronger than my preference for height i have a preference for size...body size, that is. i would much rather be with a man shorter than myself who was of stocky build, than a man 6' and thin/lanky. this is because i like to feel safe next to a man, and delicate and feminine next to him. thin men do not give me that feeling.
so, everyone has their physical preferences, and believe it or not every single one of us will fit into someone's preferences.

When I was younger, I would have sold my soul to have those dimensions. The fact that the ladies you meet are complimentary...no surprise. John Stossel ran a piece years ago on this...almost all of the ladies he interviewed said you six footers were preferable even if us 5-4 dudes were millionaires, and you were struggling financially ...only child molesters were excepted. He was astonished...I wasn't. It's that bad for short guys in civvie world. Not taking into account the discrimination professionally, even my own family avoided playing match-maker, despite education and earnings, until recently, when it was far too late. You are bringing out a deep-held resentment...
This is why I am all in with hobby. Because it's a dollars game, I can compete here, be myself, and not have to worry about the bullshit that applies to civvie world...what a breath of fresh air!
