I believe Clinton thinks prostitution is wrong and for him demeaning.

People have various tap-dances they do around the ethics of sex, Bills' is quite different that L's.

It's obvious from the wire-tapped conversation that L thought sex-for-money was honorable. Then, if you listen to the press conference, he called what he did a "private matter" apologized to his wife and family and said he did something that was against "my and any sense of right and wrong" and for the public, he said merely that he "disappointed." He also then said that he had to spend time regaining the trust of his FAMILY.

I read that he felt he did something wrong was a matter of his family obligations, but not really to the public, except for the fact that the public will hold him as letting down his family. There was no mention of having to resign, in fact, he said that politics is not about individuals.

I had to smile. He's one of us, Harry. He might not even resign.

High-profile NY governor Elliot Spitzer was "involved" in a prostitution ring. He has canceled his schedule today and is in a meeting with his staff. No other word yet.

"Mr. Spitzer, a first-term Democrat who pledged to bring ethics reform and end the often seamy ways of Albany, is married with three children.

"Just last week, federal prosecutors arrested four people in connection with an expensive prostitution operation. Administration officials would not say that this was the ring with which the governor had become involved."

...and what is his name here?

Or does he even post reviews?

The real question though is who squealed on him?

It was an ongoing federal investigation of the agency ... complete with wiretaps.

Actually IMO "Hypocrisy at it's very finest...." would be prosecuting people, when you are the AG of a state, and then get caught for the same offense.

Just saying.

and your business is throwing rocks.

I feel bad for the poor SOB, but what the hell was he thinking?

He probably even thinks the hobby should be legal.

He's a democrat. He was a popular governor and prosecutor. This might just be good for the hobby and public understanding of it in the long run.

I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught, I won't get caught, I won't get caugth, I won't get caught,

men of influence and power always pay for sex.  any man after a certain degree of financial achievement comes to the conclusion one day that, "oh shit... I can fuck that girl I've always wanted."
Spitzers idiotic move was that he was caught.  And if he was not using an alias and false identity being such a public figure he deserves to be caught.
Just proves that this hobby is basically a pretty normal thing.

everyman's fantasy... a sex goddess for all time... and he, with the fairy tale marriage... to the lovely jackie....   and they lived in camelot... but then - even in camelot there was that dastardly  Sir Lance a lot....

how fitting... what are we thinking - this is not new stuff.  it is as old as Marc Anthony and Cleopatra - or perhaps even older.....

which is why high priced providers do not worry about winos....   no cell phones.

The part of the indictment I read indicated he paid $3,000, $400 up front.

I mean, look at diamonds. They ought to be as cheap as iron. But they are bright and pretty, and by keeping them expensive people afford them want to buy them.

Spitzer will not be alone.  There will beother high profile folks.

Look at the court documents!  Boy, they really acquired a lot of info via wiretap, bank records, email, etc.

has anyone been to the Emperor's club vip site?
Seen the girls? etc

take a page from his fellow Democratic New Yorker, Willie Clinton, and just be satisfied boinking some less attractive civie for free. Hell, why pay when you can use your political position to get them to submit? Maybe he just wanted the 7 diamonds and couldn't gigure out how to convince her that he was such an important political bastard that should be given a free one.

The guy made 4125k for the last 10 years and he can pay $4500 an hour? Doesn't add up.

I made $48k in my first year hobbying, and spent $600 on providers.

My second year, I made $35k and spent $9k.

Given that $4 million buys you a lot of marginal utility with your money. So, it could have been his money. Believe me, though, Feds are going to be looking at his bank accounts.

However, it is a good question on where his money did come from.

Bill's bar for physically attractive wasn't very high if Monica and Paula (pre-nosejob) is any indication.

During Clinton's term, I represented a 25-30 year old woman who was sued for an auto accident she was in on her way to a Redskins game.  I had lunch with her and her girlfriend who was with her at the time of the accident.  They just happened to be going to the game on free tickets supplied by one or two of the players.   They didn't say which ones and I didn't ask. The lunch was not long after the Monica story broke. These two were a pair of pretty fine sisters, 7-8/10. They told me they thought Clinton was a dumb ass for taking up with Monica.  They said he should have taken someone better looking and better able to keep her mouth shut and there were plenty of women around who fit that description (including them, I surmised).

Maybe this will help generate support for decriminalization - but then again, I do not think that males should ever have control over prostitution or escorting or whatever...

I do like the canadian system... where if a lady is independant she is good to go.

It now appears he paid for her to come from NY to DC for their meeting, thus setting himself up for possible federal prosecution and loss of his job.  Hardly seems like non-news to me.

he has power... and is not forced to resign... then this is certainly no biggie... as he paid!

cannot have it both ways... personally - this guy is gonna pay... and pay and pay and pay....

I am not worried about that... what I am worried about is spending endless public attention on this rather than real issues... such as education, border enforcement, the mess in Iraq... global economic mess, domestic economy...

and here again, we have a dem, gettin some... and everyone seems to think that is important... 'scuse me...  but if the press were actually concerned about this country and the real concerns and the ability of this country to keep their ever lovin right to print sh1t.. then they would relegate this to the 15th page or so... where it belongs.  Same goes for Paris hilting giving a blow job... or lilo flashing her vaja ja.... it is just stupid...

Unless there's a minor involved, that's a real chump charge, and the prosecutor is bullying the defendant. Prosecutors will only try that one if they know they can win, something, like a plea bargain. Spitzer can afford a first rate attorney-- forget it. He'll never be charged with that one.

GaGambler229 reads

if he refuses to step down. I am sure the NY Republicans who are screaming for his resignation will threaten him with prosecution. Keep in mind the offense, chump charge or not, is a felony and would be grounds for impeachment and disbarrmentn not to mention possible prison.

I'm not saying it's right, it certainly sucks, virtually every married man on TER is guilty of the same offfense, but it is the ugly truth.

He's impeachable probably even for the misdemeanor charge. The statement is "high crimes and misdemeanor."

Republicans might agitate to get him charged, but not only can he afford the best lawyers, but as one of the premiere prosecutors in the country, he knows what can stick and what can't.

If it becomes a trial, then it's going to be thrilling, because then you could have precedents for all prostitution laws New York. I have to say, at the press conference, he didn't seem like he was stepping down. It seemed like he considered it something personal. And he is perhaps looking at how Republicans accepted Vitter's apology.

lol. There I go! I'm practically cheering for him. It's going to be such a let-down if he resigns now.

market went down another 150 points...Oil hit $107 a barrel (gas will probably be $4/gallon by spring)..

Pick any of the 3 events I listed, they are all way more important than the Spitzer story....

. . . but there's not too much commentary you could make about those, except for the fact it's damned terrible news, and we should be doing much more for our vets and their families.

And there's not too much about those that are pertinent here, except for how we're going to afford to hobby in this economic crisis?

For any other comments, see the P&R board.

While the Emperor's Club site is down (duh!), it is listed here on TER.  Haven't been any reviews posted in over a year.

Gee, with zinaval, harryj, BizarroSuperdude  and Doctor Gonzo commenting in this thread, its almost like the good old days in the Pathetic & Ridiculous forum.

Actually, I really don't think that this is worthy of anything other than calls of stupidity...  but criminal?  what is criminal is that he probably wrote this off as an expense and that means that you and I are paying for his fun...  and that is not funny to me.

To us in the hobby who live with this, it's no big thing. To Civies, it's incredible.

It'll be beneficial to the hobby as a whole, especially if he doesn't resign. When somebody Spitzer is seeing providers, and if it happens often to "prominent white males," ultimately prostitution will become at least decriminalized.

Enough people are shocked about this that reporters probably are going to begin to look for it in other prominent people. I mean, with this big a story, reporters are going to want to get their names on other stories about this.

-- Modified on 3/10/2008 2:11:07 PM

REPORTERS are creating this non-story.  They've got sorry assed folks like you.... all a 'twitter with your knickers in a twist... get over yourself.  This is such a non-story... and as has been said... it has a very good chance of blowing over (excuse the pun).

Beneficial?  was it beneficial to gays that larry craig failed to resign?  Don't think so... the only folks that are gonna pay are the families of these dudes... sheese, don't have a family if your gonna do this.  or at least don't get caught.

What am I, chopped liver? lol

Hey, if you won't come back to the Pathetic board, we'll just come to you.

And we can hire him as our lobbyist to legalize the hobby so we can stop these horseshit, candy ass arrests once and for all!

Morgan,

I don't see how that is possible. Spitzer had the power to be able to make that happen in NY however instead of going that route he signed the following...

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/21/opinion/21mon3.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

"Language added at Mr. Spitzer’s behest also takes aim at “prostitution tourism,” clarifying that selling travel-related services to facilitate prostitution abroad is a felony."

(Does that mean the he can be charged with a felony since the service he allegedly used operated in London and Paris?)

I am all for banning human trafficking/legalizing the hobby but Spitzer had a chance to help that very few ever imaged and did nothing to help.

Forget his background!   It's about PROSTITUTION!  What man( 45-65 years old) especially, as in this case, is not faced with reduced sexual activity, even with a hot wife, when said hot wife is experiencing menopause and all that jazz.  She could have given the ok, even????

pinning it on the people who spilled the beans, even if he didn't know who it was!

would deny for others what he reserves for himself. As NY State A.G. - on more than one occasion - he basked in P.R. for prosecutions such as this.
Get my tear vial!

Too funny, Elliot Spitzer gets caught with hookers - a "crime" I'm sure he's persecuted many many others for.

I read about the Emperor's Club bust a week ago, and now this. It's not a surprise but this man has to go through these hurdles to get some high-priced nookie is sickening. That's his business, let him and his family deal with it.
I felt the same way about Billy boy, but felt like he took the lower totem pole, he could have done much better.
In the end, maybe we will get some due diligence in the providing, hobbying world, all this hypocrisy is leaving a sour taste in my mouth and that's not the taste that I want there :)~

He might have thought $5,000 bought him quality and safety, but he had so many lovely and ethical indies that he might have seen for so much less.

Big shot doesn't know sh*t about taking precautions...  arrogant!!  Ever heard of a hobby phone?  Probably texting from his freakin office!

I don't give a rat's rectum about wjat he does sexually. I don't care if he or any pol likes to fuck dead yaks, as long as he doesn't kill them to do it, pay for them with public funds, prosectute or criticize other citizens who do it, or do it on "company" time. His sex life should be between him and his family.

"His cases as attorney general included a few criminal prosecutions of prostitution rings and tourism involving prostitutes. In 2004, he took part in an investigation of an escort service in New York City that resulted in the arrest of 18 people on charges of promoting prostitution and related charges."
