As for your movie selections, I've not seen any of them and have only heard of one them, "It's Pat!". Which begs the questions: Did you actually watch that movie? And why? Did you pay to see it? I'm sure it belongs on the list. Movies that people (including myself) saw that truly sucked and deserve consideration for this nomination: "On Golden Pond", "The English Patient", "Howard's End".

...for best picture, but it still sucked. In fact, most "Academy" winners, be it Grammys, Emmys, Oscars, etc. SUCK (especially true with Grammys)!!! Obviously, there are notable exceptions like "The Godfather", but I have to say that "The E P" is the equivalent to Milli Vanilli's Grammy.

I rented it just to see how awful it could be.
I'm a big MST3K fan, so I know my awful movies.

It was the only movie they ever considered not doing a spoof on because it was so bad.
I do love the scenes with Torgo though.
the english patient was a great movie, I cried and cried at that one. You might want to watch it, I thought that it actually portrayed a real man for once. I thought the part with the candles down the path was a very very romantic touch.
I have only walked out of a few movies but I think I exited this one the quickest.
Adam Sandler is the anti-actor.
...be an actor, but he is funny. You missed a gem if you walked out on The Waterboy. Yes, it's a stupid movie. But it wasn't supposed to be an intelligent movie. Its sole purpose was to make you laugh. Perhaps, the greatest line ever delivered by a jock on the big screen was given in this film by LT, when he told the kids at his football camp to "stay off crack!". This movie was rich!
You trashed three movies above that may not have been full of action, but that contained nuanced performances by established, human, REAL actors. "On Golden Pond" starred Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn, and great interplay between Fonda and his real life daughter. "Howards End" starred Sir Anthony Hopkins (who you might like better in the recent "The World Fastest Indian") and Emma Thompson. And "The English Patient" starred Ralph Fiennes, Kristen Scott Thomas (in an incredibly moving performance...and much sexier than any of the usual bimbos in a Sandler movie...Emily Watson excepted), Willem Dafoe, and Juliette Binoche.
Check into those people, and they are listed as actors. Check into Sandler, and he is listed as an "entertainer" who delivers mostly boorish, lowbrow humor with a sneer. Sandler caters to his target audience and makes them proud to feel "average", and cashes in as an astute businessman.
The Three Stooges, who obviously were inspiration to Sandler, knew that part of their appeal to ALL people was that they were lovable because they were clueless. The same could be said for much humor that is similar to Sandler, but superior (like "Beavis and Butt-head", for instance). Sandler, on the other hand, implies to his audience that boorishness is better, takes pride in lowbrow, and mocks intelligence like it is as disposable and superfluous as manners. Few would find him funny other than those who are afraid of culture and still resent growing up with mommy's rules.
...as I stated previously, I'd seen all 3 of the critically acclaimed movies that I'd trashed. So you certainly didn't need to expound on them nor the actors. And I will concede they are NOT the worst movies ever made. That was not really my original assertion; I simply stated that IMO they were three of the worst movies that I had seen that I knew many others had seen, as well. As expected, I got many comments both agreeing and disagreeing with me. As for Sandler, I also acknowledged that he was not an actor, but a comedian. I don't think all of his movies are that funny, but The Waterboy (and Big Daddy) are fucking hilarious. While he is sophomoric, these two movies are not as low brow as you submit. They are rich with irony and comedic genious. I'm sorry that it is too far "below you" for you to enjoy. As for the 3 Stooges, I can watch them for maybe 10 minutes. Many people who know me, think that my brother and I were the inspiration for Beavis & Butthead, and before that Wayne's World. I was never flattered nor offended by their comments. Most were surprised when I offered that I thought "B&B" was "TOO stupid for it's own good." If Mike Judge had been given a little more room to develop the show, it could've been a LOT better (BTW, "King of the Hill" is excellent). Most SNL skits should not be made into movies no matter how popular or funny they are. I have to say that I was impressed by the first Wayne's World movie. Not that it was anything superb, but it was the rare exception that comes to mind of a SNL skit that generated a funny and entertaining movie. As for your psychobabble BS about my fear of culture and whatever the crap you spewed about mommy's rules, spare me. Like you said, we are probably polar opposites. And I wouldn't have it any other way. My $0.25

When I first got Double Fantasy, I listened to the whole album. I then taped all of the John Lennon Songs from it and swore I would never play a yoko song again in my life. 25 years later, and I am sticking to my guns!
