over the weekend to Houston for Kevin Marshall & Jeremy Lamb plus draft picks. Seems like a lot of bodies for Harden. It appears OKC ran out of $ to sign Harden. Season starts tomorrow Celts vs Heat and Mavs vs Lakers
.the Thunder matched the Houston offer basically dollar for dollar, placing them in position to have to pay the luxury tax penalty. In fact they offered terms for one more year and 20 million more. Harden decided to request the trade.
the James Harden deal was 52million vs 58-60 million that Houston could give plus Houston saying that they will redo his deal so he would get more later. Either there is more problems in the locker room of OKC than what is being published or James Harden didnt like the fact that OKC didnt have another 6 or 8 million over 4 years to give to him. If he thinks going to Houston is getting him closer to a ring over OKC..... he better start finding more players to come to Houston!!!!
He wanted to be a starter on a "decent" team more than a reserve on a top tier team.
Several articles I have read referenced his desire to be a starter, and to show that he could play at the level of Durant and Westbrook as a starter. That was the main reason for his not signing with OKC, and for the Thunder players not being surprised by the trade.
