i hope this is a proper question for this board.

i'm thinking of starting up a foundation for people who have suffered the same bs from a medical board that my husband is enduring. i'm sworn to secrecy concerning the particular problems(medical)that he is suffering so my question for now will be simply has anyone have any experience or knowledge on how to begin a 501(c)corp?

how would i get started? contact the appropriate attorney i'm guessing.

please don't make fun of me because i have very little time on this board.

There may be someone there who's familiar with 501(c)3 requirements.

in helping you with this venture.

discuss with them what your goals/vision is for this first, then take that to an attorney.

There are two distinct steps:
(1) form a corporation under the laws of your state;
(2) after you have filed articles of incorporation and received
a notice of acceptance from the state, you simply fill out an application from the IRS  for 501(c) status.

     Specific info on how to do both is available on the web to get you started. Then you go to the state and finally IRS websites for the forms.
