But I would still be able to practice...sad_smile

Primitive perverse customs of physical abuse  under the guise of religion freedom .

" A controversial Jewish circumcision ritual is under fire after allegedly causing the deaths of two infants and exposing potentially thousands more to the risk of herpes infections .

The health department reported last month that an estimated 20,493 infants in New York City were exposed to direct oral suction. Baby boys who were reportedly circumcised "with confirmed or probable orogenital suction" between April 2006 and December 2011 had an estimated risk of contracting neonatal herpes (HSV-1) infection of 24.4 per 100,000 cases, making the risk 3.4 times greater than those infants who did not have direct oral suction, according to the health department findings.

In a statement advising New York parents to refrain from direct oral-genital suction during circumcision, New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley said, "There is no safe way to perform oral suction on any open wound in a newborn. "

More like not enough freedom from it....especially from certain evangelical politicans and televangelists.

The politicians, almost exclusively right wing I might add, are quite another. Not to mention the fucktards that come knocking at your door wanting to "save" and tell you how you are going to hell in your own fucking house, Those assholes can't wait to get off my property when they have the bad luck to knock on my door. lol

I wonder how much money we could raise if instead of looking to the 1% that already pays most of the taxes, we simply revoked the tax exempt status of churches and made those fat cats pay their "fair share" some of those guys make millions and millions off shearing their flock. Time for them to pay the piper.

yeah, I know it's a bigger pipe dream that hoping the hobby is someday legalized here, but it would sure raise a lot of money.

I oppose getting rid of tax exempt statuses for churches since obviously they don't get gov't support
like they do in Europe. As long as they don't engage in completely overt political activity,I think they're fine. Most churches are clean,it's the dirty few that make it bad for everybody.Robertson and the late Falwell suck up the oxygen of media attention when they say and do something stupid. There are people like Rick Warren or Joel Osteen who go about their business of religion in a manner I can respect or at least tolerate. For me,the hatred for religion comes out when stupid extremists try to impose their will on the rest of us.

but I didn't grow to hate it until I spent some time (decades now) in the Bible Belt.

Those "Good Christians" are the phoniest bunch of back stabbing, racist, thieving hypocrites you could ever hope to meet. After years of living with their blue laws, being denied the simple pleasure of buying a beer on a Sunday afternoon, and being told to "respect their religion" while they felt it was perfectly acceptable to try to push their way into my home to tell me I was going to burn in eternal hellfire if I didn't subscribe to their exact version of a two thousand year old fairy tale.

If you hadn't noticed, I lost my tolerance for "thumpers" a long time ago. I used to suffer in silence in decades past, but they don't respect me, so why should I give them any respect.

Truth be told, I do give respect for religious folks that just go about their business, but one thing I have found is that just like some of the sissy liberals on this board, like TrannyBoy and Mattgina, they become quite bold when they are in groups, not to mention quite fucking pushy. As long as they adopt a live and let live type attitude, I am fine with them, but I have found over the years that many of them just aren't capable of doing that.

I grew up being raised by a single mom who had me go to church every Sunday until I was a teen.It was a Nazarene church that was actually quite nice and hospitable although when I started REALLY paying attention to the sermons, little things here and there didn't add up which led me away from religion as an adult. The 'hellfire' stuff that was promised if I didn't so much as 'believe' was too much to overcome. At heart,I respect people and belief as long as that respect is returned and we each give each other our space....welcome the other to break bread as friends and share our beliefs in a coversational not confrontational way---The Golden Rule!I mentioned the Rick Warrens and Joel Osteens of the world who are positive contributors of their faith in society, those people I have respect for NOT the Falwells or Robertsons of the world.Having said this,I didn't have your experiences in the Bible Belt which tempered my outlook in a more positive way and have more of a degree of allowance w/religion that you otherwise don't have.

Maybe we are products of our environments, but I have seen just how ugly these people can be, especially when in groups. That's why I believe our system of laws, with protection for minority rights is a much better system than an actual true democracy which allows for "mob rule"

I guess I am so jaded because of my experiences with "Good Christians" that I have a hard time differentiating between the Olsteens of the world and the Falwells, I don't really take pleasure in their misfortunes, but I have to admit I would get a chuckle if Jerry Falwell were to get hit by lightning. Ok, I confess, I would be rolling on the ground laughing my ass off at the irony for hours on end.

Speaking of religion,I got a topical thread started on Muslims and porn which is pretty interesting in the "Porn Stars" section which includes Muslims supposedly leading the world in searching on Google for 'sex terms'.
