A dental dam is basically a small sheet of latex which acts as a barrier between the vagina or anus and the mouth. Dental dams get their name because they are used during dental surgery such as root canals. Due to the possible infectious secretions from both the vagina and anus, the dental dam is becoming a more popular safer sex tool. With the introduction of different colors, shapes and sizes, manufacturers are adding some exciting changes to what once was sterile translucent-white latex.
They come in different colors and flavors:

My personal opinion is that dental dams are silly. I've done a little research on it. The original source was a similiar health site:

Tipping is appropriate any time.

I'm new to this hobby so bear with me!
I like DATY, but worry about diseases, etc. Is it vogue to use some protection like saran wrap, etc? I have no idea. Do I just ask the provider?
Also, when does one add a tip. Is it at the beginning when you pay the fees, or after the act? Thanks for ya'lls patience!

Saran wrap is also used sometimes. In fact, I think dental dams can be worse than saran wrap because they are often so small that they can easily slip off the target (whereas a large sheet of saran wrap can be employed). In my experience, doing DATY is more difficult with either a DAM or saran wrap sheet, but it isn't an insurmountable obstacle.
You are kidding yourself if you think that Saran Wrap or any other food wrap will act as an effective barrier. Food wraps are designed to prevent bacteria from getting to food. Most of the infectious products you are trying to stop are viruses which are significantly smaller than bacteria. Might as well go bare as use a food wrap.
"6.1.3.5 Saran Wrap
Saran Wrap doesn't degrade in the presence of oil, and may transmit sensation better than latex. Lab tests indicate it can prevent transmission of Herpes, which is smaller than HIV. There is no reason to believe that "Microwaveable" Saran Wrap provides any less protection than regular Saran Wrap. Saran Wrap's STD prevention use is limited almost exclusively to forming a barrier for cunnilingus and analingus."
Checked databases for World Health Organization, Center for Disease Control, Federal Drug Administration & American Medical Association and all archives for these organizations. There is no recorded study in these databases that shows that plastic wrap in any way prevents transmission of viral agents.
I did find two references in non-authoritative sites that mentioned a study done by the CDC for the FDA using Saran Wrap to check for its uses versus viral agents, herpes specifically. However since no sign of any such study can be found in any of the recognized literature or databases of either agency it must be considered to be anecdotal.
There is mention on the CDC database that plastic wrap can be used for oral sex but they also noted that it didn't have FDA approval. Actually NO barrier method for oral sex has FDA approval.
No proof exists that Saran Wrap or other plastic wraps prevent viral infections, that I could find. If you have an authoritative source I would be glad to review it.
It's not clear what you are saying. I already provided a cite that suggests that Saran Wrap has some protective value. I can provide several others if you need that. You haven't demonstrated that dental dams are superior to Saran wrap with a cite. Sounds like you may have been shooting at the hip.
I never said that dental dams are superior to Saran Wrap as a barrier method. Try reading my first post again.
Your 'cite' is from a free web page on a Hungarian server. Not even from the Medical community of that country. I have stated and can back up, that there are NO medical tests that prove that Saran Wrap is more effective than tissue paper as a barrier method for oral sex. If you can show me a research paper or definitive study that shows that any kind of plastic food wrap is an effective viral barrier I would love to see it.
There are a number of sites that suggest plastic food wrap as a barrier for oral sex. Some of them are even major Health organizations. If you had completely read the previous post you would see that I mention a CDC report that suggested the same.
Just because they suggest a procedure does not mean that it is effective.Without proof you are only guessing and a completely uneducated guess at that.
My initial post stated "dental dams can be worse than Saran wrap because they are often so small that they can easily slip off the target." Your reply focused exclusively on Saran Wrap (or other food wraps): "Might as well go bare as use a food wrap." You are correct that you "never said that dental dams are superior to Saran Wrap as a barrier method." But a logical inference from what you posted is that Saran Wrap is worthless and inferior to dental dams. You didn't mention dental dams in your attack. It would not have been logical to infer that you felt they were equally inferior.
When I asked you to enlighten us with some citations, your response was that there is "no recorded study in these databases that shows that plastic wrap in any way prevents transmission of viral agents." You did not provide any evidence to support your initial claim that you "might as well go bare as use a food wrap." You are the one who made that assertion. One would assume you had a citation in your back pocket showing that Saran Wrap and other plastic wraps are not effective viral barriers.
I am not sure of the relevance of a web page being on a Hungarian server. The document was authored by the Society for Human Sexuality at the University of Washington. And there are many other similar ("non-authoritative") cites. We both agree, I think, that there isn't a definitive, authoritative document that establishes whether plastic wrap is effective or not. So stating that it is ineffective is premature. Saying that definite randomized clinical trials have not yet been conducted to establish the effectiveness of plastic wrap would have been accurate. I never claimed that it is effective. It's not clear what you meant by saying that "without proof you are only guessing and a completely uneducated guess at that." Since there is no proof, an educated guess is all either of us has at this point. Your posts attack my reading skills ("sounds like you can't read") and education on the topic. Those who have trouble expressing their ideas sometimes transfer the blame to the target of their communications.
I'm over and out on this one, regardless of any nasty remarks you send my way.

most people still prefer to go bare with daty... and medically the hiv risk is much lower than with bj, but if you are going to be going around back... please understand that a Few varieties of Hep. are transfered via the fecal/oral route and the hep. shots are for A abd B only, not C-G.
Boys and Girls, get your hep shots!
have fun and play safe,
Nicole
ps... tips now come after the fact, by and large... after you have recieved your Service. great service=tip
again, TIPS used to mean To Insure Prompt Service, which was coin up front. now is after, like in a restaurant or bar... and preferably not coin (unless she is a collector
tips range from $20-$100 and dont feel you Have to, but it IS a nice thing, and will usually Insure Prompt Service in the future.
DATY is not a safe sex practice. You should be worried.
That said, I too enjoy it and can not imagine missing out on it with a hottie.
I do cover for FS and avoid BBBJ but I take a chance with DATY. My risk management includes visual inspection (which of course is easy enough to do since your face is right there) and not digging for gold; a few licks on the labia and along the crack are enough of a thrill for me.
