Ok. I've read all the newbie FAQs and posts but I'm still looking for a little more clarity. Let's say that I'm a complete newbie ready to take that first "plunge" and call a number. I've never done it before, have no references, no reviews to my credit, no DateCheck, no nothing. So two questions:
1) What exactly is the opening line on the telephone? Is it "I'd like to schedule an appointment with ..."? Is it "I'd like to schedule a message with ..."? Any guidance would be helpful.
2) I'm also still not clear as to what "screening", "light screening" etc. mean. Is somebody going to ask me for my SS#? For my driver's license number? If I'm the boss of my own company, is somebody going to ask me for the number of my Executive Secretary to verify employment? My HR person? Again, any specific guidance would be appreciated.
I've always preferred email for the first contact. Some of us write better than we talk, and I'd rather avoid tripping over my tongue, at least until the door closes and we're alone.
With "no nothing", as you put it, it's going to be tough to get that first date under your belt. Screening is all about safety, hers and yours. It involves a litle trust in both directions. This lady is agreeing to see someone she doesn't know on an intimate basis, and you are expected to give something in return. That something is personal information. Whether you give it to her, or you give it to Date-Check, or another verification site, you will have to give it up.
Some ladies will see newbies with employment information and some won't. Your best bet is going to be one of the verification sites. One last thing: if anyone asks for your SS#, hang up.
Thanks. It's not that I'm unwilling to get verified. I just haven't done it yet. Sounds like it's a must. Everyone agree?
It is a must. If you want the best chances of staying safe legally, physically and financially - you have to see someone that screens you by your information. And NO, they don't call HR and say "Hi, I'm a ho, does so and so work there."
Many girls who are reputable will see newbies but many more girls won't. They wait for that one or two provider references to make sure you know how to act in Closed Quarters. For that reason stay patient and start e-mailing (preferred first contact is e-mail for most) one at a time on your list. If someone won't see you because you have no history, set her aside and you can see her later
Although it may a hurdle as you are getting started, you want the ladies to check prospective clients in order to avoid LE and unsavory characters that may do them harm. Safer for you in the long run as well.
I also agree that first contact via e-mail is preferable to calling. This way, I am able to communicate what I need to without tripping over my tongue, having nerves get in the way, or say something foolish that results in a hang-up on her end. Then, if she responds positively to my e-mail, it will be time to pick up the phone and call.
Lastly, just to clarify my post to you on the General board this morning regarding hobby phones, you will have noted that my opinion on this is in the minority, as many of the other folks who responded have SO's that they need to hide their activities from. If this applies to you, get one. If your phone and computer are relatively secure as mine are, you may not have the need to do that. It's your call.
Oooops, I saw your subject line and thought you were talking about something else.
Thank You

I prefer to use email for a first contact, what does she like? Be calm, honest, polite, and no menu questions. Tell her what time an type (incall/outcall) of appointment you are looking for.
As for the screening, do not see a lady that does not screen thoroughly it is for her and your safety. (NJOM)
I am a business owner, you need to prepare for the the dreaded phone call. You can and should set up the scenario and prepare your Admin (you don't want them screening this call, so you), ie; you make up, and tell the chosen lady a company name (do not use a real vender or customer, make it a support company that you don't use much) and background that will make her call fit your business. That way no one will be suspicious. This has work very well for me and it is very hard to get by my people.
Yes the good screeners will want to see your drivers license, it is so they can check you out before making an appointment. She will also want to see it when you first meet.
And it is called a hobby. lol

I have met with a few that only use phones. I generally start off by giving my name and confirming you have the right person. Odds are their "screen name" is not their real name. So if you call asking for Josie and her name is Helen... she instantly will know what the call is about. Equal odds her number is a business only line.
After that, I explain I have seen her reviews on TER, they have made an impression, and that I'd like to set up an appointment. Using TER as a reference (I believe) lets them know instantly you're probably more serious about an appointment... less likely to be some guy who is going to waste their time on a long phone call with no payout.
I have been asked for referrals by phone, for verification info, I have also set at least 2 appointments where I was asked nothing at all... just show up. I have also had one appointment where there was no phone call at all, it was all handled by email.
From what I gather in talking to the girls, some of them are really good at 'reading' you right off the bat. While I'm sure some truly do screen, others may only do so if they get a wierd vibe or some sort of red flag.
In any case, stating membership in TER and a straight-up request for an appointment has worked for me.
Don't discuss sex or activities on the phone, they will have to hang up if they are smart at all. Once you're in the room with your clotches off and yours hands on each other, the LE issue is out the window. At that point I've always found anything goes in conversation about actual sex acts, money, the Hobby.
