penis, but only enough blood to run one at a time. --Robin Williams

I read this great quote from an interview with Bruce LaBruce in the most recent issue of $PREAD magazine (Summer 2009):

"...there's this misconception that there's no kind of morality in porn, that it's just a morass of sexual excess and hedonism, and that everyone is amoral or immoral.  But in fact I think you need to have a very strong moral compass to negotiate through porn because there are lots of different ethical questions and there is a lot of negativity in that world and you have to maintain a strong sense of your own morality."

This quote really echoes my own experiences as an escort and a stripper during the last six years.

I always find it funny that I have to remind "civvies" that I'm a *good person* all of the time because to me, it seems obvious that I am highly ethical.  The "hooker with the heart of gold" is a mythical figure, but I do think the sex business is very trying on your principles.  You'll get offers to do *everything possible*, and Bruce LaBruce is right about sex workers needed an internal "moral compass."

What do you think?

In my adult life some of my strongest bonds of friendship have been formed with sex workers.  Women who have escorted, stripped, done porn, web cam or fetish work.  With rare exceptions they are some of the most honest and moral people I have known.  It's amazing what you can learn about both others and yourself when you approach people who may not "fit the stereotype" with an open mind.

Oh yeah, the sex has been pretty good too!

the cherry on the pie. But I'm the pie and my pie is good all by itself. Even if I don't have a cherry.
