What is moderation? And why is it used?

It's a number of things.

First, all users start out moderated.  This allows the moderator to make sure they are good community citizens.  After some period of time and/or numbers of psots, you can be undmoderated.  This allows your posts to go up immediately.

Now, moderators can set individuals to moderated or unmoderated as they see fit.  This can be done because the poster has been deemed unfit for breaking the TER rules, etc.

Or, in the most recent case, I used it on a number of folks, just to slow down the messages back and forth, as I could no longer keep up (I have a real job, this is just volunteer).  I have no intention of it being a permanent thing, I just felt that the thread was getting too personal, and that people were coming very close to breaking rules.

In that thread, I removed a number of sub-threads as they were, in my opinion, totally personal attacks. Other sub-threads stayed, as they contained more useful information or opinions than not.

That all said, I apologize if anyone took the posts personally, or if they felt they were unduly singled out.

Now, back to reviewing the ladies!

I have been going back and forth with some pm's with JT1896, who has always been great for sharing and posting worthwhile information.

He mentioned that his posts are being delayed and asked if I am being treated the same, which I am not. He indicated that was the last straw with this board and he has decided to stop posting reviews on TER and will no longer post on the discussion boards. Unfortunately, I think he will be doing his posting elsewhere.

I do not understand why a board member who has contributed so much would be driven away. I realize that he and JB got into it a little bit in a few posts, but don't think it was anywhere near the point that he should have his posts delayed by a day. JT contributed useful information to me and others (his identifying fake ads is very helpful to new guys). Why is he being treated like a second class citizen, are others involved in the disagreement being treated in a similar manner? I don't get it. I hope he changes his mind, but don't blame him for leaving.

It ALWAYS takes a few hours to a day for my posts to get approved...*shrug*...I thought that that was the norm...

There are alot of us who have our posts delayed. It is 2:15am 1/24/05 See how long it takes to post this??

...when you have a 12 pack in the fridge, but you only drink 11 of them in a sitting.

Why edit the posts? We are all adults here, anything that is said should be taken in stride. It is after all only the internet and if you can't take a comment like an adult from an internet board then I feel sorry for you in the "real" world.

If a disinterested 3rd party thinks something you posted was over-the-top, inappropriate, or downright offensive, it probably was.

I can't count the number of times in life I wish there were an omniscient being who could go back and "erase" stupid things that I've said from the collective consciousness of the world.

And we've all wished we could go back and say something else but this is different...
