Geez, tell us something we don't know.  There's a guy who had the city by the 'nads and threw it all away.  How many ways did he cheat anyway?  Steroids, corked bats, Alou whizzing on his hands...All a pitcher had to do was give him a little "chin music" and he was done not only for that series, but for a few series after that too.  The Hall of Fame should keep it's doors locked to Sammy as a player and as a paying customer.

scores and home runs starting rising in the 1990's, I do not waste my time on the old pastime. What Sosa, Bonds, McGuire et al did by cheating with steriods; is a disgrace to the DiMaggios, Mantle, MaY'S, Aaron's, Ruth's, Clemente's and OTHER greats who played the game with honor and guts.

"Brother, you asked for it!"

I think it is more of an effect than a cause.

Baseball Hall of Fame. What are your thoughts, do they deserve to be honored or not?

In the meantime, I'm playing some golf this week with my buddies, and will enjoy the US Open.

Problem is, what do you do, shut down Hall eligibility from a certain date?  I mean, how do you prove anyone was or wasn't on steroids then (unless you have proof like in Sosa's case), or is it up to the court of public opinion?

That way, Sosa and his buddies would be contained in one area, and you wouldn't have to guess if a hall of famer was on the juice or not.

They lost me after the 3rd strike, when the players and the owners plainly communicated, "Screw the fans!" The steroid issue was just the door slamming shut.

Perhaps an interesting experiment would be to allow all athletes to take whatever they want. Then, at least it would be a more level playing field, and there would be a lot of money saved by eliminating enforcement.

The down side would be the impact on the young kids who play sports.
