...and maybe it won't be topped.  A 42 year-old Zamboni driver stepped in as an emergency backup goaltender for the Carolina Hurricanes and was credited with the win against his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs.

 
The NHL has a weird rule - one person is designated as the emergency goalie for BOTH teams if they run out of goaltenders.  In baseball, if a team runs out of catchers, another position player takes over.  They don't pull someone out of the stands to catch.

 
The 42 year-old had never played in an NHL game.  He gave up goals on the first two shots he faced but then settled down and stopped the next eight shots to win the game for the Canes.  Amazing!  It sounds like something straight out of Walter Mitty.
