I’m still trying to process that 70 million voters voted for Trump, despite his disgraceful personal conduct, his utter failure in dealing with Covid, his almost complete lack of policy accomplishments, and his impeachment and obstruction of justice.  My theory that even low information and low education voters would abandon him also turned out to be wrong – he somehow got more votes this time.

I posted last summer that Trump was a genius at self-promotion and a genius at politics.  That one at least I got right, although even there I thought that four years in the white hot spotlight of the presidency had exposed him. Not to 70 million people and not to most of the GOP who have shamefully remained silent for so long but still got reelected.

Ironically, Trump was right that mail-in voting would lead to his demise, albeit for the wrong reasons. His legal and media strategy complaining about “fraud” and not letting his flunkies observe the count is really dumb. Suing in state courts is pointless.  Let’s hope that Trump does not prolong the nightmare by directing the DOJ to file an original jurisdiction lawsuit in SCOTUS against the blue states that allowed mail in voting on grounds that this violates the Constitution.  It just might.  With his 6 to 3 conservative majority, that is the only card he has left to play.
